Hair straightened for a touch of self- esteem for I have now self-diagnosed myself for having lack of it. My highly intellegent niece states I now look like a nineties babe. Husband agrees. Daughter doesn't quite grasp nineties. She demands a hair cut for her fringe is too long! I promise her a hair cut on the 14'th April. Husband frets about his all important interview this afternoon.
Over the weekend, Newrouz was fun. I helped mother to decorate the Newrouz Table with candles, painted eggs and newly shot grass and nuts. Nuts in copious quantities. No walnuts though for my son is allergic to it. Mother was left to start the fire all by herself for Zardushi- The Zorastarian God of Fire! The Omniscient. Husband and I are city folks therefore we have no interest in starting fires! Haha. My children lament that after a quick dance around the fire and a makeshift prayer for Zardushi- may all our troubles be extinguished in your your flames, Oh the all omnipotent Zardushi. May you extinguish coronovires, my mother leads the prayer. Husband and I don't giggle but don't join either. We jump over the fire for it is knee high, children are not allowed to do so. Mother's neighbours' give the children sparklers so that our kids sparkle them across the wall joining their kids of same ages. Later they would demand marshmallows to toast in the fire.
My previously subdued husband remarks how much fun this was. Growing up in Liverpool, they had no fun with fire. No rituals even on Chinese New Year, all they did was eat and eat and eat...He is jealous of my childhood where by my siblings and I and the entire community mastered to jump over burning tires at Newrous at a young age. We would have been taken into care now, I remark to him, maintaining my responsible mother aura.

Really enjoyed the humour in this piece Yasemin - happy Newrouz!
Couple of typos:
Nuts in copies quantities - copious?
Mothers neighbours' give the children fire sparkles - sparklers? like we have on bonfire night?

Belated Happy Nowrouz! What lovely images.
How lucky you are that you can get anywhere near looking like a nineties babe. After so long without a visit to the hairdresser, I look like the Witch of Endor.
