My Dream Land

Ferry Meadows
I hide in the bushes because I know he will come, he’s never not showed up, the murky green lake surrounded by silence has always attracted him to come here, I am not sure why but what I think does not matter, he is all that matters. The sky is pure white, and almost shining compared to its normal blue happy self, but it is almost angelic the way the white is beaming down on the mountainous land. I am transfixed.
Suddenly I see him, I knew he would come. It is my friend, the heron. He majestically and gracefully descends from the sky and lands on his favourite spot, right near the bush that I am currently gazing in awe at him from.
Suddenly something catches my eye. The sun has burst over the peak of the highest hill with pride, and seems even more bright than usual. But I notice after being blinded b the suns glorious rays that the landscape has changed too. There used to be a mighty willow tree on the opposite side of the lake is gone but in its place is, well what I presume to be, a lily pad. But this is no ordinary lily pad. It is huge! I must go have a look but I don’t want to startle my gorgeous feathered friend. But I chance it. The heron’s sharp vision spots me and he slowly turns to look at me. It is a beautiful moment, he is almost talking to me through his eyes and I fear I may crumble from his strong gaze so I look away. I whisper’ I wont hurt you, I come here every day to see you so I would never hurt you’.
He looks at m and (to my amazement nods), he looks at the amazing object on the other side of the green swirling lake and then back to me.
I can take a hint. I slowly start to walk across the flat plain, for it is covered in frost and rather slippery. I get round there in about five minutes and by then I am shivering in amazement. The lily’s pad is huge, it must be five metres wide at the least. There is a bud growing before my very eyes and I am mesmerised by the very sight!
I hear a laugh, and someone calling my name. I turn around and see the people I was just thinking of, Em and Tim, my best friends in the whole wide world. I have to raise a hand in front of my eyes to see them for the sun is reflecting of the lake which makes it even brighter than usual.
‘How d’ya know I’d be here’? I asked eying them suspiciously.
‘Hello, we’re your best friends’! Said Em
They looked at the strange object that before them as if hypnotized, and they looked so scared I had to laugh!
‘It’s okay it wont kill you, isn’t it beautiful’?
‘Yeah’ they both said quietly.
Before I could ask them what was wrong, at least 20 herons flew from behind us and nearly scared the excitement out of me.
As I turned I noticed the landscape had changed again. Everything was white-ish and looked so peaceful I was blinking to stop myself from crying.
The heron I had seen before looked at me as if trying to tell me something and then I realised.
All of this was happening for a reason, it was what all of us had been talking about.
‘You know we were saying that we wanted to start over and go somewhere new, just the three of us’?
‘Yeah why’ Tim said genuinely interested.
‘This is how we get there. See I was thinking of you guys and how I wanted so badly for what we talked about to come true. And it nearly has’.
Tim and Em stared at me for a moment and Em said, to my complete surprise, ‘Your right’!
We looked at each other, and we knew what to do.
It was snowing heavily now but in a radiant way. ‘You ready?’ said Em. ‘When you are’ Tim laughed looking at me.
‘Let’s do it’ I smiled
‘Three’
‘Two’
Only my heron was left now.
‘One’
He nodded and flew away
And that was how I knew I’d done the right thing
This is not the end of my story.
It’s the beginning. But I will tell you, we’re NOT coming back!
