In 1729 Swift proposed with modest intent-
a sensible solution for society's betterment.
Being a man of sound reason, I do now suggest-
that we once again reflect upon his minor request.
But Swift was shortsighted and did not comprehend-
the necessities of the rich, who I am here to defend.
Seeing only a way in which to keep the wealthy man fed-
Jonathan was doing little more than just fluffing their bed.
Fortunately, one hundred and eighty-eight years has taught-
that there are far greater needs than just filling the pot.
And God in his beneficence has seen fit to teach the poor-
that to properly serve the rich they need be sent off to war.
