It's hard to pull off the "in media res" beginning, but you do it superbly here. A great sense of place and character. This is exceptional, and perfect flash-fiction, a jewel just as it is.

There is so much content on the site that I would imagine very few of us ever look back at old stuff. I do, occasionally, when I think to myself "I wonder whatever happened to...".

you have "feint" vice "faint". "Feint" being a noun meaning a dummy blow with a sword or anything else and "faint" the...
