The Beach
I lie on my perfect beach staring at an unblemished blue sky unmarked by cloud or plane. The only sound I hear as I close my eyes is the crash of the surf as it hits the coral reef that guards my island paradise before gently lapping the beach at my feet.

The Futility Of War
It is quiet this morning nothing moves and there is no sound in the early morning sun, a sun whose rays are dispersed by a light early morning mist that is gently rolling over the fields along the valley floor.

A Deserted Englishman.
It is hot, very hot. Not just the heat of a summer's day but searing, mind- numbing heat that I can almost taste. I look around; screwing up my eyes; even behind sunglasses the glare is incredible. A heat haze covers the sand dunes that stretch around me in all directions, giving the illusion that land disappears into the shimmering water on the edge of sight. I know it is not real but I am dying to believe it. To have some respite from the torture the sun is inflicting on me, to have release.
