During the hot Balkan afternoons it’s grand to lie on the settee with jugs of glacial tea and a summer soundtrack. Joni Mitchell, Joseph Canteloube, Bob Marley and Mississippi John Hurt on scratchy vinyl all sooth as Pavlovian mosquitos snarl from their sides of insect screens.

Those afternoons will be back soon, I hope. I don't care for this having to wear socks nonsense.

It's not poverty but profit

Posted on Sat, 05 Aug 2023

It's not poverty but profit that's the sin that's destroying our world.

In so many places things are no longer allowed to exist if they don't make a profit. I can't understand how in Victorian Britain they were able to open public baths,...

I always feel they need a leg

Posted on Fri, 04 Aug 2023

I always feel they need a leg up to escape the slippery slope. But which leg? So many to choose from.

And I always sing Born Free as I release them and other insects, arachnids and arthropods back into the wild.

It's nice when...

Posted on Thu, 03 Aug 2023

The only liquid mud that we have here is the melted chocolate. I've never known a hotter summer than this but at least it reduces my appetite, especially for chocolate.

I enjoy the hot sunny weather but I think I would probably benefit...

Please tell Alfred from me

Posted on Tue, 01 Aug 2023

Please tell Alfred from me that one day he will reach a point where he no longer needs to go to work.

Life becomes absolutely wonderful, every day.

It happened to me.

It's called retirement and it's the ultimate carrot....

There's nothing quite like a meadow as a place to lose yourself. We have more meadow than Julie Andrews had in The Sound of Music. We'll gladly lend you a bit of it.

These words stood out for me...

I attempt to imagine......

Thank you Drew. It's very kind of you to say so.

Though perfect and sense are two words that are rarely used together in comments about what I write... or say. So you've made my day.

And thank you for the golden cherries. They made...

I don't know where to start.

I don't know where to start.

So descriptive...

So surreal...

So much like the hermit life I have lived myself in the past...

So enjoyable to read!

A lovely poem... fun but thought provoking.

I think we all could do with a slice of your cake Rhiannon.

If I could I'd put the cherries on top.

Posted on Mon, 31 Jul 2023

I can't explain why but I love poetry like this. Deep and surreal to the extent that every single word makes me think what the hell's he on about? The more mysterious the better.

I've tried to write this sort of thing myself but it always...
