The Last Lesson (4th June 2008, 9.23am)
The answers you do not wish to find
rest, uneasy, in my eyes,
blurred through glass and circumstance
as you refuse to look at me;
you hold my hand and I feel only
a tactile hallucination;
your touch fails to comfort in the aftermath
and I feel more than lonely,
unreachable through the maze of tears;
the labyrinth lies wide open;
we seek our way back, pulling strings,
down through the years unravelled here;
while sipping tea, the words unspoken
lie, unhelpful, on my tongue,
heavy with saliva and sarcasm;
the last lesson learnt in your silence.

"you hold my hand and I feel
"you hold my hand and I feel only
a tactile hallucination;"
I do like this line maybe because I know exactly what you're referring to here.
And the image the following invokes is fabulous;
"we seek our way back, pulling strings,
down through the years unravelled here;"

so sad, but beautifully
so sad, but beautifully written.'your touch fails to comfort in the aftermath
and I feel more than lonely,'
the desolation of lost partnership is the loneliest feeling I ever, ever experience. So beautifully put here.

This is without doubt my favourite piece of yours: regarding the above comments, I feel bound to concur that the lines quoted are particularly fine.
However, I confess to a personal affinity with, and affection for,
"blurred through glass and circumstance"
Marvellous.

Ewan
