(With apologies to Blake)
Tesco! Tesco! Burning bright
Every day and every night
What immortal hand or eye
Could question thy brand majesty?
In what distant deeps and skies
Beeped the bar codes of thine eyes?
On what land did they aspire
To build their temples of desire?
On what shoulder and what back
Built the food mall and the rack?
And when the purse was in retreat
What the discount on fresh meat?
What the trolley? What the line
Of shoppers during Christmas time?
And if conveyer belts are full
Just open up another stool
When the stores in years to come
Infest the gardens in our home
Will He smile his work to see?
Did He who made the Lamb make thee?
Tesco! Tesco! Burning bright
Every day and every night
What immortal hand or eye
Dare question thy divinity?
