Ways of Water

Once I was a little stream,
wending my way
through the countryside
of my young life.
I was burbling along merrily
over rock, stone and sand,
shallow and happy
content with my direction.
Occasionally, other rivulets
would join with me.
I would gladly accept them,
enjoying the company
until, eventually, they’d dissipate,
searching for greater torrents,
leaving me feeling
a little less than I wanted.
I became stagnated, unmoving
then you came along.
You offered yourself to me;
I felt evaporated, yet
you fearlessly dove in anyway,
changed my direction;
filled me with your kindness.
Like a waterfall, I fell heavily.
We helped shape each other
into a mighty, deep river.
Then you showed me
the ocean I didn’t know existed,
where we joined together
on a beautiful beach
before floating off
into the sunset of our future.
