New Haven

Razzel has lived in New Haven since she was born. She knows things she shouldn’t and sees things that are not meant her eyes. Her father is an addict, her brother and alcoholic at nineteen and her mother disappeared when she was six.
Nothing in her seventeen years of life has been easy or simple in any form at all. She lives in an okay area, her father cleans up if anyone from the school stops by and her brother disappears. From the outside they live the perfect life but on the inside it’s far from perfect.
She slipped quietly out of her bed, making sure not to wake Angel or Richard her brother and father. She stepped into the shower making sure not to turn the water up to high cuz it would make a loud noise. She picked out a pair of tight jeans and a simple tee that had a little ninja on it and said “which way to Tokyo?” She grabbed her Cute Is What We Aim For jacket and rushed out of the house making as little noise as possible.
She stepped onto the streets and the air hit her, it smelled clean not like cigarettes and sweet but sickly smell of brandy. She basked in the sun for a while until she saw it. It stepped out of the shadows in all of its disgusting glory. It was big much like a bear in stature but not in shape, it was tall and skinny with black wings and a deformed face with clown like makeup. The problem was no one else could see it and it didn’t know that she could see it either.
The thing strutted toward an unsuspecting human that was not prepared for what it was about to do. It bent down and grabbed a hold of the man’s leg, pulled it right out from under him. I just kept walking down the street like their was nothing there all I know is that he didn’t know I could see him and that is the way I would like to keep it.
I arrived at the front of the school on time and Sybella was waiting for me outside.
“You made it on time today wow Razz I guess there is a first for everything huh.” She said laughing.
“Oh hush I am not always late.” I said
“Yes you are when it comes to being at work on time.” She said.
“Okay whatever let’s stop arguing” I said not in the mood to deal with this right now.
“Yea okay so are you ready to brave the halls for the start of your junior year.” She asked?
“Um not really but let’s get on with it.” I said
I transferred to this school because I got a scholarship this will be my first year here but Sybella is pretty cool I met her at work. I work at a small books store on a bad side of town but I love it there and I make good money most of the time.
“So I need to fill you in on how things work right?” she asked
“Uh sure” I replied
“Okay there are clicks here despite what the teachers and principal say.” She said.
“That’s the bell we better get to class” I said
“Yeah you’re right” she said.
Me and Bella had a few classes together but sadly the first one is not one of them so I was completely and totally alone.
“Hi I’m Kaiden, Sybella told me to watch out for you since you don’t know anyone here” he said with a smile.
“Cool.” I replied. “Oh I’m sure she told you but I am Razzel.”
“That’s a pretty cool name so since your name is like a candy that’s what I’m going to call you.” He said.
“Cool” I said with a laugh.
“Oh Dyllan this is my new friend Candy isn’t she adorable” he said
“Oh yea we could do some serious damage with this one look at that figure.” He said.
I soon realized that Dylan and Kaiden were dating and were in fact gay. They were both really cool. My next class I also had Kaiden in and when I walked in the door I saw this guy. He had perfect pale skin completely flawless and shaggy bronze/blonde nearly metallic colored hair but it was his eyes that caught my full attention. They captivated me they weren’t normal they seemed to dance they were like an ocean changing color as you looked at them.
I stopped looking I have learned not to stare I remember as a child a boy not much older than I am saved me from one of those creatures. Never stare. Don’t attract attention to yourself try to be invisible to them like they should be to you.
Through the entire class I couldn’t stop staring at that boy he was definitely older than the rest of us in this class. It wasn’t the way he looked it was the way he conducted himself his demeanor. I couldn’t focus on anything he had this huge smirk plastered on his face when he turned back as if he knew I was looking at him.
I looked down immediately and forced myself to read over the text although it felt like there was a invisible thread attached to my neck pulling my head back up to look at him but I kept my continence.
I sat through my next to classes unable to think of anything but that boy. Finally lunch time came and I was tired and ready to have some food. I met up with Sybella and we went to her table after grabbing dome food.
“Okay so we’re going to sit with Kalob I don’t think you’ve met him yet” she said and walked in the direction of the boy who I couldn’t get out of my mind. There were more of him well not particularly him but people with the same skin and similar eyes but his still had me on lock there was a girl and another two guys.
“Hey Kalob this is my friend Razz.” Sybella said.
“Hey Razz it is nice to meet you I am Kalob and this is Ami, Baroque, and Zak.” He said pointing to each of them.
It was so hard to speak his voice was semi melodic and it pulled you in but I knew better than to get sucked into anything I had perfected my technique since I was six.
“It’s nice to meet you all” I said
“Indeed so where are you from” he asked.
“Oh Kalob she’s from here in New Haven she transferred from Kiln’s school.” She said.
“Oh so she’s from that side.” Ami said with a smile.
“That was rude” Baroque said looking at Ami.
“No she’s right I am from that side” I said with a smile.
“Oh so you admit to it what’s it like over their?” Ami asked.
“Um so me and Dylan are throwing a party tonight you should come Razz.” He said.
“Yea you should come and bring some of your friends” Ami said.
“Ami that is enough” Kalob said something finally.
“No it’s fine um I think I’m done eating.”
