Distant Point

The enveloping cold shrouds the fields;
The sheep, camouflaged, sleep.
You can hear the crispness of the air
Almost crackling with low energy.
Everytime you breathe you see your mark is left,
And you walk onwards, ever outwards.
You can see the snow not falling,
Little flecks of glitter floating free.
What visual wonders Winter yields.
The deep winds begin to creep
Across the barren landscape and dare
To make this song an elegy.
Yet even though the land is bereft
Of life's rewards, its sweetest chords
Still echo through the fields and sprawling
Woodland limbs, and it calls to thee.
The secret world this season reveals
Begins to speak and entice your feet
To follow, and find out just where
You've been before, yet never truly seen.
The chill sets in and begins its theft
Of warmth, yet not of rewards.
Just look for them; hear them calling,
And discover their majesty.
Once found, these distant points appeal,
With conceit and indiscrete
Manor, their secret calm; so rare,
So cold, so deep and so serene.
The silence of the snow's descent
As it haunts this place without a cause,
Is so painfully beautiful, you'll start ignoring
The blistering cold, and slowly freeze.
