Chapter 1
Manchester, England 20 years ago
“Please, Gabriel, please make sure my child survives,” pleaded the young woman who was about to give birth in an abandoned warehouse.
“I will do my best, Marie, I give you my word”.
“Aarrrggghh, the babies coming,” shouted Marie.
“Ssshhh quiet now,” Gabriel patted Marie’s head down with a damp cloth “everything will be alright”.
Gabriel looked down upon Marie who was losing a lot of blood from the attack.
“We need to get the baby out now or she might get infected,” said Michael as he strode into the room.
Michael was covered in black blood running from his arm and chest, even though he was tired from battle his eyes and face were kind.
“I fear it is too late, Michael,” replied Gabriel as she watched Marie begin to convulse, frothing at the mouth, eyes beginning to role backwards.
“Get the baby out now, Gabriel, we might be able to save her,” said Michael through gritted teeth trying to hold Marie in place while Gabriel took out a small silver blade from her belt the blade was marked with angelic script for truth and strength, she pierced Marie’s stomach all the way to her womb. The flesh sizzled and burned telling Gabriel that the infection had already spread and was spreading quicker than they expected.
“I fear the child has not survived, Michael,” said Gabriel as she removed the small female child from Marie’s flesh. Michael cursed, they had searched the heavens for this child, the chosen to be beaten by the darkness yet again, please God we need your guidance. Gabriel covered the unmoving child with a towel and looked at its face.
“Such curious little things aren’t they Michael,”
just as she said this, the Baby made a gasp and began to cry spitting up fluid from its tiny mouth.
“A miracle, Michael, a miracle she is unaffected,”
Michael put his hands to Marie’s head and said a silent prayer, attempting to send her soul to the heavens rather than the foul place below should she become a shadow. With that he took out his sword and planted it in the centre Marie’s heart, Marie turned instantly to dust her form crumbling before Michael and Gabriel’s very eyes.
“We cannot stay here, Gabriel, the child will not be safe,”
Michael stood up wiping his sword with the cloth used to damp Marie’s forehead moments before, and returned it to his waist.
“Come, we must find this little one a safe place to stay,”
Gabriel rose slowly looking at the child, looking into her eyes for the child’s eyes were not like any other human eyes she had seen before, the child’s eyes were amber like that of fire, a fire the child will need as she grows to help in the battle of all battles, the final war.
“Michael, she has such a fire to her belly I can feel it, can you?”
Michael turned towards Gabriel eyes glistening full of tears not yet shed for Marie, another lost soul another casualty in the war between that of angels and mankind.
“Yes I can feel it, she is strong this child and survived when other’s would not, that’s why we must leave, Gabriel, now!”
Michael walked past Gabriel and went to the large broken door and peered out looking for other dark ones. The rain was heavy pouring down, the wind was blowing hard and the street lights were out facing the warehouse, never a good sign. Gabriel wrapped the baby in more clothes including the coat she had on her own back to keep the child warm for even if the child was a survivor she would surely not survive a night like this without proper warmth.
“We must move hastily, I fear we are being watched.”
Michael removed the sword from his belt which was created in the very fire of hell during the first battle, which no other blade could withstand nor enemy without turning instantly to dust.
“How many,” whispered Gabriel, pulling her dagger out of her belt ready to do battle to save the child’s life, for if the child dies all hope would be lost.
“I’m not sure two maybe three Vampires, nothing I can’t handle, wait here!”
Michael crept out from the warehouse moving along the building keeping to the shadows, moving silently at one with the night, years of this battle had taught him to move like the creatures of the night to become like them but not one of them. The smell of rotting flesh entered Michaels nose, his violet eyes widened showing him the vampire he was sensing. The vampire was on the roof of the warehouse looking for them.
“Have you found them yet?” whispered one vampire to the other while standing on the roof of an abandoned warehouse.
“No nothing, though I heard a scream before but can’t hear anything now, or smell anything”.
“Well you better keep your eyes and nose open, Semyazza, gets upset when we don’t complete the mission and he will show us no mercy this time”.
Michael made his way slowly around the side of the building and leaped silently onto the roof behind the two unsuspecting vampires. Lost souls of those that were half demon, half human, other creations but not those created by God but by Satan in his attempt to overthrow Heaven and Earth. One of the vampires turned around as he smelled something sweet a strange smell, but an all too familiar one
“Michael,”
the vampire twirled around and went to strike Michael using his claws, Michael dipped down low and took the vampires legs from under him plunging his sword into the vampires chest so quickly he was instant dust. The other vampire pulled out a dagger and snarled at Michael dodging his blows and cut Michaels left cheek, black blood began to ooze from Michaels face.
“Now that wasn’t very nice,” said Michael as he grabbed the vampire and head butted him so hard the vampires head began to bleed. The vampire hissed as he fell to the ground. Michael swung his blade and in a flash the vampire was no more. Michael crouched down on the roof eyes wide smelling the night air, scanning the surrounding landscape for any other demons, vampires or dark ones. Satisfied he had removed the threat Michael jumped off the roof and landed silently on the ground in a crouch and stood up slowly.
“It’s safe to come out now, Gabriel,” said Michael as he entered the warehouse, Gabriel looked at Michael.
“What happened to your face?”
said Gabriel as she gazed at him “Thought you had unparalleled fighting skills,”
“I meant to get a cut there, makes me look more human,” Michael said while grinning
“Come on it won’t be safe out there for long, let’s get the baby to a safe house.”
The streets were dark and wet from the unyielding rain, the sound of the rain bouncing from the floor was like a lullaby to Amber who slept silently in Gabriel’s arms during the long walk.
“We should take her to the church, Michael,” said Gabriel
“No they will look for her there, we need some place safe for even the churches have been infiltrated now,” Michael replied.
“Is nothing sacred,” cursed Gabriel while looking at amber who did not yet understand what role she would have to play,
“How can this little light shine when there is so much darkness,” whispered Gabriel while putting her finger onto the child’s cheek.
Michael stopped walking and stared into Gabriel’s green/blue eyes, face hard yet yielding and merciful
“Let me tell you something that the Lord once whispered to me a long time ago, Gabriel, with the power of darkness there is also a power of light and when the darkness surrounds us that is when the light shines most bright,” Michael then turned away and strode onward eyes wide looking for a sign, please give me a sign.
Semyazza paced the floor awaiting news of the prophesised child. Head low looking towards the floor one step in front of the other.
“Any news brethren?” said Asmodeus as he entered Semyazza’s chambers
“For I hear it is a night for celebration and I do love to celebrate on such glorious occasions such as the return of the fallen”.
Semyazza’s head snapped up and looked at Asmodeus who was dressed in a black Gucci suit measured to fit, with a white tie probably Gucci too. Asmodeus was a handsome enough angel, if that’s what you would call him, but there was nothing angelic about Asmodeus other than his features beneath the surface was a dark, and horrible demon who had no mercy for mankind and believed that the end of days would soon be at hand, setting the strong from the weak.
“Not yet, Asmodeus, I am awaiting the return of my seedline.”
Asmodeus sat down on the large leather chair and pored himself a large glass of the finest whiskey, like he owned the place.
“Don’t get to comfortable, Asmodeus, for you know how we do not relate well,” said Semyazza as he eyed Asmodeus from next to the fireplace where he stood, Semyazza had never been fond of the others as they were not fond of him since he helped to cast them out from grace at Michaels side, and joined the fallen angel’s ranks after he himself was cast from heaven for disobeying a direct order from God himself. When he was appointed watcher, but had then fallen in love with a human female lusting after her until she was his. His chest still stung from her loss as he remembered what had happened to his beloved all that time ago. He was willing to bring down Heaven and all those who stood in his way for vengeance of the one whom he had lost.
“I just wanted to be here for the news brother, to toast over bygones to a new beginning,” replied Asmodeus as he poured himself another whiskey and held it up to Semyazza before knocking it back in one.
