Butterflies

Cocoons hung like stalactites from my limp, lying form
It took the dance of a thousand butterflies to wake me up last Spring
It was the gentle breeze of two thousand wings
The whisper of delicate angels that shook me awake
Flashes of colour, a shifting shield against the newborn Sun
They carried my heart with their wings, scurried blood through my veins
Raised my head from the ground, tugging the roots of my mind
"I've been dead for a year, I won't let another go by."
Voices of angels bound loosely to the Earth calling me softly
Shook the webs from my arms and the ice from my heart
Bounding like a child playing for the first time
A monster amongst a cloud of butterflies, hosting my awakening today
Taking hold of my arms, one last leap higher than ever before
All is soft, there is no more silence, though I wished I could see
Springtime surrounded by a blinding white
There were only butterflies awoken that Spring
Alive through the morning, the afternoon setting
And in the evening, they lie with me, my silent blanket
And I awoke in the Autumn, once more cold and alone
