Day breaks over Baghdad
Black smoke fills the air,
Innocents will die this day
What say you, Bush & Blair?

Day breaks over Basra
Beseiged by British tanks,
There to free its people
But will they give you thanks?
What say you, Messrs Bush & Blair
Will its people give you thanks?

Day breaks over Britain
As bombed out planes return,
In this 'war for freedom'
What was their main concern?
What say you, Messrs Bush & Blair
What is your main concern?

Day breaks o'er the battle
Allied bodies in the dust,
As the body bags keep coming
Are you sure your cause is just?
What say you, Messrs Bush & Blair
Are all those young deaths just?

Day breaks over HQ
More deaths from 'friendly' fire,
With 'blue on blue's still rising
Does it blunt your hearts desire?
What say you, Messrs Bush & Blair
Does such waste blunt desire?

Day breaks o'er the newsroom
Another newshound killed,
What say you Mr Editor
Was his job spec full fulfilled?
What say you, Messrs Bush & Blair
Are your job specs full fulfilled?

Day breaks o'er the desert
Troops display their finds,
Proof or propaganda,
Designed to cloud our minds?
What say you, Messrs Bush & Blair
Are you playing with our minds?

Day breaks over Paris
As Chirac reads the news,
Will anything the Allies find
Cause him to change his views?
What say you, Messrs Bush & Blair
Who will change their views?

Day breaks o'er the planet
Its people hold their breath,
What will be the outcome,
Of battles, bombs and death?
What say you, all you people
Can we rise from war and death?

Day breaks over Baghdad

I love the challenges in this, the questions, a very thought provoking piece, I am undecided about our involvement in the current wars, and probably don't know enough about it to comment, like most people I want peace, I also believe in freedom and standing up for those unable to stand on their own, but war sickens me, love (and peace) X

Love the repetition of 'Day breaks ...' it really works to build the tension! And the questioning is also very effective. A hauting poem - thank you for posting it! Magic xxx

Its a question we'll probably always wonder? Did our leaders do the right thing? Some might say it was better to do nothing. But what would we have said now or later if Saddam did manage to create nuclear weapons and continued to bully and subjugate Iraq's neighbours to his will. Or if they developed more chemical weapon stocks and the means to deliver it. Then we might have had no more choice than to back down from his barbaric, and extreme threats. Some might say that Israel does not deserve a peace after putting colonies on the West Bank and East Jerusalem but at least they haven't lost Tel Aviv to a weapon of mass destruction. Kuwait hasn't been reoccupied and Iran's territories remain intact, and a variety of groups and political parties are at least represented now in Iraq's councils.
