WHERE THE MOON COMES FROM

Often times I've seen at night
the moon up from the ocean rise
to meet the stars up in the sky
and shine there, oh so ever bright,
like a giant pearl, all glowing white.
I asked the gulls. They didn't know.
They go to roost when the moon glows.
I asked the tides for their advice
on where the moon comes from at night.
All they knew was that he plays
when twilight comes upon the waves,
then as if by magic seems to rise
and stroll his way across the skies...
So, I asked a mermaid I had seen
She said, 'The moon comes from the Oyster Queen,
as a favor to our king, Neptune.
Each night her pearl becomes the moon,
the light that paves a pathway
Each night 'cross the waves
where we mermaids and the mermen
come to sing and play,
dance to the rhythm of the sea,
tunes the fiddler crab plays merrily
to entertain the great Neptune.
The oyster's pearl becomes the moon.
It's carried to the sky,' said she,
'I know not how, but magically.'
