Red Dress

Red dress, red dress,
slinky and fine;
scent of perfume;
heavenly, divine;
He’d do anything to make her recline.
With her he knows he’d be blessed;
she looks so good
in a tight red dress.
White dress, white dress,
chiffon and lace.
Not one single
hair out of place.
A wide beaming smile on her pretty face;
why would be a silly guess;
she always wanted
to wear a white dress.
House dress, house dress,
floral and worn.
On her hip
yet another new born.
She can hardly contain her scorn;
no wonder she feels depressed
as the best she has
is an old house dress.
Black dress, black dress,
sodden with tears.
Sad and alone,
its the sum of her fears.
She’d given her all for so many years;
he’d seen nothing but her best,
now he's up and left her
in this mourning black dress.
Red dress, red dress;
it still fits like a glove.
Her children won’t mind
nor will he up above.
It’s the one she wore when they fell in love.
Had ups and downs but no regrets,
now she’ll go to him
in her favourite red dress.
