The Cloud

I leant back onto the soft warmth of her bed. As she reached across my chest and just eased her head back onto it, I listened to her heart-beat against my side.
So peaceful, so quiet. After the week of hectic work and social suicide, I needed this. Just time with her, time to think and just be myself. Since she left, it wasn’t the same. The blue sky at break was un-interesting, not even the hint of someone I knew being arrested could steal my attention from the cloud I watched warily overhead.
I thought of that cloud now, as I stared into the ceiling with a grin sneaking across my face.
I caught her glance upwards at me, ‘What are you grinning about?’
My answer was simple, not unique but completely and utterly truthful, ‘You.’
The grin that shot straight to her eyes and brought back the sparkle that made my heart jump out of my chest and enveloped her to me, made me realise that I couldn’t lose her.
‘I never knew what I would do if anybody tried to take you away. I need somebody, somebody crazy enough to tell me, I will love you until, we are buried, our bodies, our bodies, buried close together.’
We rolled and turned to face each other. The sunlight caught your frame perfectly; I couldn’t tear my gaze from your deep golden brown eyes that watched me, twinkling softly. You reach out and pull my face towards you, as you study every inch of it; that smile, my smile creeps across your face and I can’t help but giggle at you.
I kiss your nose and pull you closer towards me. I wrap my arms around you and feel you kiss my neck softly.
‘I want this moment to last forever.’ I whispered into her ear, she nodded and I swear I felt her smile.
I looked out into the sky and watched the clouds go by. I knew there was nothing else I needed in the world, just her. I know we were young but that didn’t seem to matter.
I pulled my arm out from underneath her and sat down by the side of the bed. She moved closer.
‘What’s up?’
‘You’re gonna think I’m joking but just listen to me.’ I knelt down on one knee. Her look of confusion changed to a grin and she giggled at me instead this time.
‘I’m serious. You are all I want. Now and forever. I want to wake up by your side for the rest of my life and that’s all I need to keep me happy. So….will you marry me? Now hear me out, I don’t mean now but I’m asking you now so that I know you’re mine and I’m yours forever. Okay?’
Silence filled the room as she looked into my eyes; I gazed out into the window and saw the cloud.
My cloud.
‘Yes. I’ll marry you. You know I feel the same way....
Now uhhh nekky please?.’
She winked slyly at me and I jumped onto the bed to hug her. I caught my cloud moving off out of the view of the window.
‘I love you.’
‘I love you more.’
To this day, I swear it was a heart.
