Somewhere In Between

A hundred shooting stars I've seen,
Since watching skies at night.
A thousand standing still
I found, when counting after light.
A hundred winds I've heard at sea,
When sailing through old storms.
A thousand men lost to the stars,
Their wives never informed.
A hundred waves I've seen,
In daytime, churning at the bow.
A mighty swell that sends us
On another journey now.
A hundred clouds I've seen, above
Emerging from the sun.
The weather gives the ship a shove,
We have nowhere to run.
While we wither from our fears,
They are scared of what we hide-
The seas have taken half my years,
But not my soul inside.
So now I count the many stars,
Where stormy skies have been,
I watch you, son, not from afar,
But somewhere in between.
