Midnight. In the darkness a struck match flares, bright yellow against the black, quickly replaced by the orange glow of a freshly lit cigarette. Moments later the night-time silence is shattered by the staccato bark of a smoker’s cough. A door swings open, artificial light briefly illuminating a sign on the wall: “Fire Exit only, no access to Oncology Ward”.

Really brilliant take on this week's IP, David! I especially liked: 'staccato bark of a smoker’s cough.' Well done!
