Comes the night.
Basking in the setting sun’s warmth,
The air whispers the promise of night’s chill,
A breath of wind, a swift’s quick song,
Ev’n fall comes
A cacophony of crows,
The first bat flits, chasing moths,
Kids trundle home agrumble,
The days too short.
The sun kisses the horizon,
Rays stretching up; fingers agrasp,
To hold the day but a moment longer,
Another battle lost.
Silence settles; all becomes still,
The last stragglers whisper home,
A flash in the gloom, the owl’s hushed call,
Enfolding darkness settles.

Hi Darkenwolf,
A wonderful description of the evening setting in,
then into night.
Love it, very descriptive.

Some really lovely imagery in this one darkenwolf, especially loved:
'The sun kisses the horizon,
Rays stretching up; fingers agrasp,
To hold the day but a moment longer,
Another battle lost.'
The poem also flows really well, with the similar sounds rolling off the tongue!

"To hold the day but a moment longer. . " this is a kind of personification of the sun. Brilliant picture. I can see the sun setting as well (from my verandah)!
