Breaking Point

I watched the bathwater slip down the drain
with the blood and the sweat and the tears.
No one else could see them there
but I saw it, laced with my fear.
You asked me to give it one more try.
You asked me to give you a chance.
But there's nothing left in this world, my love
that will make this marriage dance.
Where is the trust in this love, my heart?
Where is the love without fear?
You've taken my soul and ground it to dust
and there's nothing worth having left here.
Return the heart that I gave you, my sweet,
along with my C.D.s and books.
Give me back my hopes and my dreams.
As you go, leave a last loving look.
There are times when I wish you were dead
my dearest; times when I wish you were back.
Sometimes I wish you'd return, my soul;
and give me the love I now lack.
But life is a long varied journey
with stops and diversions en route.
So I won't use this gun on myself, my love;
it's YOUR sorry ass that I'll shoot!
