First Love

Love came sneaking into my life
as swiftly as the assassin's knife.
Once there it then proceeded
up to my heart, unheeded,
lodged there with it's root
and spread with sinuous shoots.
No lullaby now was ever this
no baby fought so to resist;
a soldier's fighting song
with crashing cymbals and horn.
I tried to take a pause......
but still love made me yours
and the prince of whom I'd dreamt
left sadly, crowned head bent.
You take all my love, my best
and give it back with interest
and I give you all I can be,
and we consume, most greedily.
The bedroom is our tangled nest
where we make love and take our rest;
the kitchen is our home sweet home
the table top as soft as down.
The bathroom is our playroom too
a balancing act 'tween bath and loo,
the hallway can be just the place
when we meet in lust and haste.
But softly now and in slow motion,
sheepskin rug and firelight's potion.
I rule the world when I'm with you,
I make decrees and see them through;
stop the armies from their fighting
dressed in a cheeky babydoll nightie.
I now have courage and a love
swift as hawk and soft as dove,
an armed battalion to defend you
and the will to see it through.
No citadel was better held
no golden treasure better shelved;
no pirates hoard was doted on
like this love I'm living on;
I stand so tall that the world can see
how I love you and you love me.
