Crumbs

The sun warms my back
as I stare at my lonely latte
Tourists pass ,
confused,
chatting...
Mother's hold hearts and hands
As children enjoy their carefree life
I am alone.
Cobbled streets clatter
and chatter
with the sound of bikes and pushchairs.
The bell tolls
for those who listen
Yet nobody notices or stirs.
Worlds stare
at worlds
As soulful strangers pass by & through
Laughter punctuates thought
And thought clouds feeling.
I watch.
I care.
I listen.
I see.
Fingers point at landmarks
Maps are studied and folded
I break my daily bread.
Bags of future donations
rustle under newly found burden
A Church bells chimes to remind us to care.
Birds chirp excitedly , seeking out
the latest breadcrumbs of opportunity.
I sit.
I smile...
More come to join my lonely quest
Each staring at their latte.
Lost....
in the troubles of their day
Distracted from reality
Clouds appear from behind buildings
and a cold breeze sweeps across us,
Instinctively we reach
for the warmth of a tall glass
or a loved one's hands.
We share a moment.
A taste.
Life.
Slowly inhaled with every sip
We breathe the same air.
Strangers yet friends.
We ignore each other.
Oblivious to each other's needs.
I sit
and sip
and wait ...
Contemplating...
my crumbs.
