The crow lands on the bough
It bends but does not break.
He sits in silhouette
Against the white winter sky
And waits, as do I.
Tail wings twitching
He stands tall, nervously hoping
For the clouds to roll back.
I dip my head, look up
And he is gone.
I remain at my window,
Watching the sky
Looking for a sign of change
Longing for the sweet breeze of spring
To bring some respite from the cold.
It may be the New Year but
The old one still has me in its grasp,
The earth is cold and frozen,
Waiting anxiously for the thaw,
Let it come soon.
I wish I could fly far away,
But I cannot leave and nor can he
I know the crow will return
To watch and to wait
For you to come back.
As do I.

Hi Netty Allen,
your description of the crow, in the second stanza:
tail wings twitching
He stands tall, nervously hoping
for the clouds to roll back.
I dip my head, look up
And he is gone.
Simply brilliant, I love this poem, thankyou for the
read. Happy New Year.
Congratulations on the cherries.
Jenny.
