Peter looked round curiously. "I've never seen so many trees in all my life. The air smells different somehow as well."
Jennifer Jane led him along the path to the giant's pool.
"I think this should convince you that this world is not your own and that magic and the fairy folk still exist here."
Peter looked round carefully. "There's a pool with a boat in it and a lot of trees but I don't see anything unusual in that!"
"Look up there," said Jennifer Jane pointing at the giant.
Peter did as he was told. "Oh!" he said, then became very quiet.
"Let's go home now and you can meet my Mum and Dad."
She led the way back to the house with Peter following thoughtfully behind her. It went against all the scientific principles he'd been taught but sure enough he'd just seen a real live giant sitting amongst a forest of trees, crying slow huge tears into a pool of water.
"Hello Mum, I'm back," called Jennifer Jane as she went in the house. Mary came into the kitchen and was introduced to Peter. "I'll just show him round the house and then we'll come back here for a cup of tea and you can have a chat about his world."
Jennifer Jane went off with Peter on her tour of the house.
Mary put the kettle on to boil and was just getting the cups out of a cupboard when she noticed a stranger walking along the garden from the woods.
He appeared to be a rather rough looking old fisherman. He came up to the house, saw Mary in the kitchen and knocked politely on the door.
"I'm sorry to bring you bad news Ma'am," he said "but I'm afraid your daughter has had an accident in her canoe. I'm really very sorry but I'm afraid there's no hope of finding her."
Mary looked puzzled. "She's fine," she said, "she's upstairs now with a friend. Jennifer Jane," she called, "there's someone here who says you've had an accident in your canoe!"
The fisherman seemed to be having some sort of a fit as Jennifer Jane and Peter came into the kitchen.
His face went bright red and he began spluttering helplessly. Before anyone could say or do anything, he turned and ran towards the woods as fast as his clumsy thigh boots would let him.
"Stop him, he's the kidnapper," shouted Jennifer Jane, then realising that there was no way she could catch him, she performed her favourite piece of magic.
She produced a giant sized swiss roll right in front of the retreating 'fisherman'. He wasn't able to stop, or avoid it in his clumsy boots. He tripped over the sticky cake and banged his head on the ground knocking himself out.
