Is it just me that hates titles in all caps?

It is really annoying. It hurts my eye-ears.

Okay I get it might be a style... (I post some stuf without punctuation or caps -- is that as annoying to some people?) but whenever I come on and see a bunch of pieces with CAPS titles...

GAH!?!

You know?

If they're doing it for a reason, then I don't mind. I think that some titles look better in capital letters, for example: CATCH-22 PETER PAN NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR LOLITA WAR OF THE WORLDS VANITY FAIR BLEAK HOUSE WHITE FANG GREAT EXPECTATIONS MOBY-DICK TREASURE ISLAND
I think this is probably aimed at me. Sorry it's not something that I've really thought about, it's just the way I happen to type my titles. I suppose you are right in a way, but now I've started, I will continue. Maybe in future pieces I will change. Jenny.

Doesn't bother me that much and Jenn this isn't aimed at you, don't worry there are others that use Caps as well. Don't change it unless you want to Jenny.
Christ, something, chill out

giggle ;D
It's not aimed at anyone in particular (a bunch of folks do it); nor am I having a go (if there is some reason -- or not... shit, do what you will -- then gravy). Just for me it's like having someone shouting at you when you look down the list of writing. Or like someone just really wants to get their piece noticed... Basically I just don't get it (so if you do it and have a reason, I'm interested to know why...) And then I'm just curious if it got on anyone else's tits or not. To which the answer is clearly mostly: No.
"Or like someone just really wants to get their piece noticed..." Sometimes that's it. Other times you just put a title in all caps because that's how titles are in books, in larger text. For me, it's just a small decision that I just do it either way without stressing it. More and more, I go with lower-case. But I can tell you, I've had a lot of people shout at me(and occasionally hit me,) and the experience was rather different from reading text in all caps.

On the web text in caps = shouting. It is painful especially when in large chunks. I'm not trying to claim it's the same as being beaten by Tony Soprano, it's not nice is my point. If you have a reason or you feel like it, do it. But i'd like to know what the point is... And if there is no point then no one should be offended by my pointing out that it irritates some people.
Yeah, I'm aware that some people think that on the internet, all caps equals shouting. But that doesn't make it so. And what irritates me is all the needless rules that people are always imposing on situations. no smoking, no sex with multiple partners, no drugs, no homosexuality, be patriotic, don't dye your hair blue, sit up straight, show up on time, put your titles in lower-case. to me, half the idea of an artistic community is to get away from out authoritarian, materialistic society. so you can find my titles in all caps irritating; But I'm irritated by your trying to impose a rule on this community that doesn't exist.

I never tried to impose a rule. "Okay I get it might be a style... (I post some stuf without punctuation or caps -- is that as annoying to some people?) but whenever I come on and see a bunch of pieces with CAPS titles... GAH!?! You know?" And if you look at my last post, I'm asking if there is a reason. If there isn't there isn't. I get that people like to do things some ways. That's fine. I never said there should be a rule against, just don't expect me to sit in a room with someone dragging their nails on a board without at least asking: 'Do you need to do that?'
I get your point somethingi... you have made it quite clear now. ;)
My view is, if you're pleased with your story or poem or whatever, why the hell not give it an attention-grabbing headline? I've never understood the aversion, some people say caps is like shouting, so maybe that has something to do with it. I originally had my username in caps and got hate mail for it, so I changed it for something quieter. Nothing is meant by my use of caps, but hey, if you feel you've got something to shout about, then shout, shout it from the rooftops. What's wrong with a bit of marketing anyway? sd

TVR

if we all did the same thing it would be very noring even boring and then somethingididntdo would have nothing to complain about. Yeah shout it from the roof tops. Do it in CAPS somethingi
MAYBE, CREATIVE WRITING SHOULD BE FREE FROM SUCH RESTRICTIONS.
something, I think a big part of why I felt a need to respond was the word: "hate." It's a pretty strong word: I couldn't you just use "dislike." It has the effect(which you probably didn't intend) of making conscious people feel really guilty if they put a title in all caps, and then the effect(if not the intention) that we have is an imposed rule, except for the very thick-skinned. As I mentioned, you might have a point: in practice, I'd already stopped capitalizing my titles. But I can tell you that when I'd just gotten out of a restrictive mental health ward and worked hard to type up a poem in a public library, I didn't have any reservation about putting a title in all caps(why should I?) I'm sure there are people in similar situations, or who have other legitimate reason for directing attention to a particular piece.

With slight trepidation after the furore you have created somethingididntdo, I agree, I also am not fond of all capital titles - or no caps in titles for that matter - but I guess I can learn to live with it.

SERIOUSLY... MY QUESTION WAS ONLY: "DOES IT ANNOY ANYONE ELSE??" a) I WAS NOT TRYING TO MAKE A RULE. b) I SAID 'HATE', BECAUSE I DO. IF YOU DON'T THINK ABOUT WHETHER TO CAPITALISE A TITLE THE PURPOSE OF THIS WAS: 'MAYBE DO?'. NOTHING MORE. LIKE I SAID: 'DO WHAT YOU WANT. BUT AS I SAID IF YOU HAVE A REASON (OTHER THAN, 'maybe read my piece because the title is in caps!?!') I WOULD BE KEEN TO HEAR IT.
YOU SAID "HATE," BUDDY. ALL I DID WAS REPEAT YOUR OWN WORD; THERE IS ETIQUETTE ABOUT EXPRESSING ONE'S FEELINGS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE SIZE OF TEXT. FRANKLY, MY WRITINGS GET WAY MORE READERSHIP AND ACCLAIM THAN YOURS DO WHETHER I USE CAPS OR WHAT. THEY STILL WOULD EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T HAVE TITLES.

and I gave you a really obvious reason that has nothing to do with self-promotion. Pieces of writing, especially poems, have had their titles in large-text for millenia before the internet existed. So, frankly, all-caps in a title doesn't have the same meaning that it does in a personal message because it's a totally different situation.

If someone submitted a piece called DAISY DENT, would you know what it was about from the title alone? Maybe it’s about a person called Daisy Dent, or maybe it’s about a dent in a daisy! Caps can be useful in not giving the ‘punch line’ away, creating interest for some readers to want to find out what your piece is about. Looking at titles of pieces recently submitted, I see titles put Like This, like this, LIKE THIS and Like this. It’s up to an individual how they prefer to put their title.

My issue: how many novels or short stories have ou read in print that have all caps as titles or in dialogue or when someone is shouting? Almost never. So I don't care for it either.

Give me the beat boys and free my soul! I wanna getta lost in ya rock n' roll and drift away. Drift away...

wow this is still going. jeeeez. Yeh, it is a matter of taste (and on that point, I prefer Catch-22 to CATCH-22 :P). I was asking for reasons/opinions (thanks alp et al. for an actual reason). not vitriol (on which: way to go seannelson!!!).
