Ah, but in Korea the magpie is a bird of inspirational instinct and foretells of visitors or house guests in the near future. And seeing as it has inspired you to write this wonderful poem, I suggest you tidy the house for those soon-to-be-coming vistors.

As you know I'm no expert on form, unless we're talking about people who conduct shady deals in dark alleys. But I count eight syllables in line four. That pesky 'another' could diet and become 'one more' and the house would be tidied enough for a party.

Let the party begin. If that magpie continues to show his face I recommend buying an air rifle and sharing it with him. You can have the gun and he can catch the pellets you fire at him. Oh, is that too cruel?

OP As you know I am a generally bird phobic penguin - yes, it does explain a lot about my perpetually confused mental state - but I am also a pacifist penguin. So I'll pass on the gun but I may consider forming a knife throwing act. Given the current state of my motor skills and co-ordination, I expect my magpie to insist on being the one doing the throwing. But hey that could lead to a win win all round just like the recent referendum. Are you ready for full independence? Sorry didn't mean to get political. MP

Political? I thought you were talking about my newly learned skill of making a Pot Noodle. Next week I'm going to try boiling an egg. Then maybe we'll talk about independence.

OP How could you think of boiling an egg? An egg is a potential cute and fluffy chick unless it's one of mine of course in which case it will definitely be an ugly duckling. Confusion is an integral part of this penguin's gene pool. If one must eat eggs they should be coddled. As for the Pot Noodles - well I am in awe of your skill. Doesn't it require the ability to boil water and then pour it while still hot into a container? More than I can manage. MP

I always give my eggs a wee cuddle before smashing them. I'm off to watch that other mob on TV now. Let's hope I'm away for a long time, that'll mean they're not winning.

Hi ScoZen Will keep an eye out for it in my local supermarket - a Waitrose. It may will be in their locally sourced section as magpies are probably the only food source readily found in a 25 mile radius of the store. LOL MP
