The male bear had come across pits like this one
before and knew they were dangerous bear traps, he
had seen other bears fall in, he was not about to go jumping in this one, even if there was food at
the bottom, which was very lucky for Nathen.
Suddenly the bears heard movement in the thicket,
sensing danger, the male bear called to his family,
they immediately padded away as fast as they could.
Someone was creeping, wandering between the grasses, it was a boy child, he had a scrawny body,
he looked half starved and very frightened, he
looked about nine or ten.
The boy slowly and nervously approached the pit, he
looked down and saw the man lying in the pit, he
could see the man was asleep. The boy held a wooden
spear, he had made himself, he decided to stay
close to the pit. What seemed like hours passed, the boy wanted this man in the pit to awake.
'Perhaps,' the boy thought, 'the man was dead, he
might have a family somewhere, like he once had,
or perhaps he was a bad man, caught in one of his
own traps.'
This suddenly made the boy frightened and he wondered if he should leave before the man awoke,
but then he decided there was nothing this man
could do, while stuck in a bear pit.
The boy suddenly felt a lot braver. He once again
approached the pit, he looked around and smelt the air, everything seemed okay. He lay on his stomach
and quitely called out to the man. "Hey you! hello,
hello," but the man did not stir, the boy called
again, but still the man lay there, so the boy
decided to find some stones, to throw at Nathen.
One after the other the stones were thrown, suddenly Nathen stirred, groaning he turned over,
looking up he saw the figure crouching down looking
at him, all of a sudden Nathen remembered where he
was. He called out, "help me!"

Hi Jenny
Hi Jenny
How nice to have hope in this story for Nathan, and I'm sure the skinny boy will benefit from the encounter too.
