MATURE MUSINGS - Thoughts on Turning 60

Hello People – did I mention
I’m about to draw my pension?
(And this is where you’re meant to say :
‘You can’t be sixty – Nah – No way!’)
But even though my hair’s still brown
The face below is creased all down
My boobs have dropped, it’s all gone south –
Deep ‘laughter lines’ round eyes and mouth.
In spite of age discrimination
Maturity’s one compensation
Is watching as the family grows
Some joys only a mother knows.
With Billy Graham I found God
That was when I was a Mod
Hair short bobbed and makeup white
Out on scooters through the night
Down to Brighton for a rumble
Fought the rockers – took a tumble
Mini skirts and new pop songs –
I wonder where it all went wrong?
The Summer of Love alone in France
How great it was to have the chance
And all the while the music played
For I was young and unafraid.
Cliff was in his twenties Wow!
I loved him then – still love him now
He’s 70 soon – who would have thought –
(This year’s tickets already bought!)
I never thought this day would come
Until I notice sagging bum!
And now this child of Swinging Sixties
Just sits and writes ‘The Puddle Pixies’.
Full 30 years have now sped by
Since we decided we would try
To buy this house and make a packet
What a con and what a racket!
We’re poorer now than we were then
No money in the bank again!
Our riches lie in all those here
The friends and family we hold dear.
One thing we have surely learned
OTHERS live on what we’ve earned
Sent over here by the EU
Claim houses bought by me and you!
I’m trying not to sound too bitter –
There’s Facebook; and of course, I Twitter –
To those still here and those gone before
To all the people I adore –
Let me now say bold and loud –
MY FAMILY – YOU MAKE ME PROUD
So this is just to let you know
It’s great to be the big SIX-O!
