Selfish Songs

The Weather Wizard sent his pied representative to explain to the assembled crowd – mostly other birds – why it was cloudy with drizzle when a sunny morning had been promised.
It turned out that the frogs had joined the renegades and had been singing for rain all night.
The Weather Wizard has little power in the dark hours and so it was that the best he had been able to do was to limit the amount of precipitation.
The pied representative assured all that the wizard would soon be singing his song for sunshine in the hope that the Father would hear and break through the clouds to smile his golden blessing on all…
Many of the birds went back to sleep as the sky was so dark that it seemed more like night than day.
The squirrels had a quick chat with the pied representative and went off to have a ‘strong word’, or three, with the frogs.
For maybe twenty minutes the Weather Wizard sang his sweet songs, the day brightened as the clouds turned from black to grey but the Father did not bless the land with his smile.
An emergency meeting was called to try and make peace with the rebels;
to try and discover why they had decide to become renegades; why they disputed the established order; why they wanted to bring chaos.
The answer was unequivocal – the monkeys.
"Why should we sing songs for all when they sing songs simply for themselves? asked the leader.
It was true.
The monkeys had long since turned away from the path of balance; forgotten the old ways and the old songs...
Everywhere they went they changed things and everything they did was for themselves with little, if any, thought for all the other inhabitants.
‘The monkeys have gone mad’ the rebels claimed… ‘We must fight back!’

The white haired monkey was talking to a group of the more usual pink monkeys.
“Your theory of Evolution is alright so far as it goes but, as with most things your scientists ‘invent’ to describe the Great Mystery, it contains more speculation than observation and fits the facts into theory rather than the theory to the facts.”
The white haired monkey’s words seemed to infuriate some of the pink monkeys who were fierce proponents of the new monkey religion.
“Evolution is a scientific fact!” said one.
“There is no doubt the evolution plays a part in the development of the local theme...” White Hair replied “but it is not as one sided as you seem to think. The world changes you but you change the world!”
“Are you suggesting that the pink monkeys have not adapted to fit their environment?”
“Are you really trying to suggest that they have!!!”
