Happy Birthday Nana

I loved the way
Your hair was white-grey
It’s your birthday today,
But you knew that anyway.
You were like a child when it came to presents,
Didn’t care about its contents,
Birthdays were your favourite events,
You liked jewellery and posh scents.
You always liked to be heard
Though what you said was absurd
You made me laugh til my eyes blurred
You were a mad old bird
I raced you in your wheelchair
The nurses would stop and stare
But I didn’t care
As long as you were there.
I never imagined this,
It’s a thought I would rather dismiss
But now is a time to reminisce
About all the things I miss
I miss the way you swore,
And I never knew what you had in store,
You could never be a bore,
But I don’t see you anymore
I guess some would say this is the end
But one day I will be able to spend
My days with you, my oldest friend,
All my love to you I send.
