‘This “video” player’s better,
for it only needs a click,
but it wont show all it says it will,
it seems to stop and stick
when the picture sections finish,
then it goes right back
to the menu, will not flow on
to the next 6-picture stack.’
‘Down at the bottom of the screen
the numbers of the episodes are seen
so arrow right, and click on 2
the next 6 scenes should pop in view.’
‘Oh no, it may be so on your machine,
but not on mine, those 6 are seen,
the other ones will not appear,
I go right through
it always brings the same ones back to view –
maybe I’ll show you soon,
but now must rest,
I like to hear advice, but I know best.’
‘My medicines are complicated,
I’ll show you, then you’ll see,
there’s all these boxes I must count
to check there’s constancy;
then one is morning, one is when?
now which is first and now not then?
ah, yes, of course that’s what I said,
but yes, please help me, so instead
of trying once again, I’ll rest,
I’m glad you heard that I know best.’
‘I know my mind is muddled,
but I know best,
I’m never wrong, don’t interfere,
I just need quiet to rest,
I know my mind,
and what you say can’t possibly be true,
though no, I can’t say that
I really listened well to you,
or if I did, I’ve lost it all, and anyway, you see
I know what’s right, I know what’s best,
I don’t need help for me,
but yes, alright you put the pill
right here, though I can sort them still,
yes, even if it take until
I want to throw them on the floor,
not see them any more,
I really know what’s best,
don’t want to have them messed
about by you.
And thank you, yes, I’ll watch those 6 new scenes,
though then it will backtrack
because you see, I’ve done it once,
I’ve done it twice, and oh, so many times
it always does return you see,
I do know best, no way to rest …
I’ll doze a little while.’
‘My family is so unkind,
they order me about,
and yes, I will get angry, shout –
they ordered me to take a walk,
it’s there fault I got lost
and went so far, and missed my way –’
‘we just suggested you may want
to take your normal stroll
tomorrow, – or, if not,
with us, or maybe not at all’
‘No, no! don’t argue, No!
it wasn’t anything like that,
… I know what happened,
I assert and I will tell you flat,
that I know best …’
(unsaid)
‘You’ve been so angry all your life
and critical of all (including wife)
you push away so much of kindness, love,
and now you cannot understand
the reasons that we give
to try to show you we do care,
and aren’t against you, want to share
and help, oh, can’t you see
you may not always know what’s best,
we do not claim that we
are always right, but your importance
is not because you’re right, or not
so don’t enlarge, distort each grievance,
we want your good, have no malevolence.
Your anger’s hurting you and getting worse, a curse.’

Hi Rhianinon
Hi Rhiannon
Very well said, the story of your father-in-law's dimentia and all the problems that it means for you, the carers, as well as for him. I had problems with my father-in-law too, but he had live-in carers from an agency, so we only saw him for the odd weeks when we went to take over so they could have a break. But he had been a gentle mind mannered man before, so his frustration and anger was much harder to deal with than I expected.
