Just Hanging On

Peeking over a wall
I see children
playing in the sand
castles taking shape
sun dancing
across ebb tide’s
clam-shelled beach
and I marvel about
their smoothed over
imperfections.
Beholding these
images my fingers
struggle to hold on
legs stretching
toes barely touching
the elusive earth.
At sundown dusk
captures the horizon
and I finally drop
a mere few inches to
sounder footing
back to the memories
of my own youth.

And Oh! what sweet memories they must have been
Richard, just like this poem.
I so agree with jolono, gentle and welcoming sums this poem up nicely.
