The Dog That Nobody Wanted

Once upon a time, there was a pet shop and in the window of that pet shop was a dog.

It was a very sad dog because you see, no one ever wanted to buy it and take it home.

Day after day, people would come into the pet shop but they would always pick some other dog; some dog with a shinier coat or brighter eyes; a cuter nose or waggier tail.

“Oh dear”, the poor unwanted dog would say, sighing unhappily, “Won’t anyone ever come for me and give me a home? I’m so lonely”.

But then, one night, a pair of burglars broke into the pet shop and the dog, waking up and realizing that they were not supposed to be there started to bark.

He barked and growled and howled and snarled at them as if his life depended on it.

And the pet shop owner, who had been sleeping upstairs heard the commotion and, grumpily, came downstairs to try and quieten the dog.

However, when he entered his shop he saw the two burglars and he got out his gun and, frightened, the burglars ran away.

Now, petting the dog and feeding it a biscuit, the pet shop owner said, “Others may not want you but you’ll do for me because you’re the best watchdog I’ve ever seen”.
