Autumn Time

Crunchy, juicy apples
Pears of russet gold,
Plump and shiny conkers
Beechnuts to behold.
Tawny orange pumpkins,
Oaks and poplars too,
Shedding all their Autumn leaves
Faded evenings through.
Hedgehogs curled up to sleep
In the winter compost heap,
Smoke from bonfires drifting by
Mothers baking apple pie.
Shrews and all God's creatures
Snuggling down to sleep
Farmers in the hay field
Making time to reap.
Treasures of the Autumn
Given to us all
Sharing God's good bounty
Whether great or small.
God has given children
Something nice to eat
So let's share his blessings
All so good and sweet.
There will be enough
For all to go around,
If we take what's needed
Growing on the ground.
Brightly spotted toadstools
In the woodland glade,
Squirrels search for acorns
In the sun and shade.
Frosty, misty mornings
Sparkle like the dew,
Autumn's glow surrounds us
All is fresh and new.
Fairies weave their magic spell
Painting flowers in the dell.
Hush! The fawn is waking now,
Mother licks his sleepy brow.
Spread their wings and pirouette
Round the rosehips of scar-let,
Spiders knitting cobwebs
Into lacy frocks,
Hang them on the hedgerows
With their matching socks.
Children gather berries,
Father makes the wine
To celebrate Autumn,
Such a special time.
