Awaking from a deep sleep Luke felt drowsy, his head felt like a led weight, his mind still hazy...wishing to return to sleep concentration gone, it was as if his body could no longer function.
He tried to turn his head to look at the time, but even that was an effort, he found the more he moved his body would become paralysed. Trying to think back on what he'd had to drink the day before, there was no way the alcohol would make him feel this way, he'd had far more to drink on other occasions, but never felt like this before.
Luke remembered having quite a bit of water to drink before retiring, he had gone to bed early the night before too.
Even lifting his arms was an effort trying to push himself up, the weight of his body became too much and he slumped back down, he decided to give in to the overwhelming feeling and was soon drifting off once more.
All was quiet, It seemed that the whole of Obsidian had been hit with this feeling of sleeping, for everywhere people had fallen where they were, they were either sitting or lying in the corridors, bodies were sprawled about.
Animals did not move in the crystal gardens, the birds seemed as if they were dead. Plants started to get a brown tinge to them, as if they were dying, their leaves drooping as if the will to survive had gone.
Upstairs the Minister was slumped in his chair, his arms folded across his large stomach, his head leaning back...mouth open quietly snoring, while his wife lay in the next room, still sleeping peacefully.
Down in the control room men also lay sleeping where they fell. None of the computers had been fixed, it was a strange sight to behold. The lighting flickered slightly as the sound of heavy rain fell from outside.
Up the steel staircase the outside door was open, the men were struggling to get inside, pulling themselves across the steel platform like slugs, unable to get to their knees, some were paralysed where they were. The water was starting to enter the open door, it was making its way slowly creeping down the inner stairs.
One man who was near the edge of the launch pad, stared unable to believe his eyes, the lakes that were once filled with water, were now almost dry, but the rain that fell was once again feeding them, there was nothing the man could do, but watch and feel helpless.
Another man lay a few feet away fallen on his back powerless to move, with just the use of his eyes, he stared up at the huge black mass that had now quadrupled in size, it covered most of the planet, he tried to call out but no sound would leave his lips, his body cold and wet made him shiver internally, scared to death of what was happening, he urinated in his trousers...tears from his eyes mixing with the rain that fell, he tried so hard to move but he was totally paralysed.
The cloud continued to expand, sucking the water up from the lakes like a sponge, then contracting as the water once again fell as rain. Nothing was safe as the downpour left its mark.

Enjoyed chapter 5. What can this threatening mass be? It takes skill to move from one setting to another and you have done it with ease with this chapter. Looking forward to seeing what the fledgling pilots get up to. Chapters 6 and beyond tomorrow...
