The aptly named
Shard:
Fragment
Often of glass
Sharp, jagged
Dangerous
Flying from bomb-blast
to penetrate skin
Associated with harm
and suffering
uncontrollable bleed
Or a lasting reminder
of corporate greed
From the top of where
one can see
every forgotten
corrupt or cash-starved
CARE HOME
across this blighted country

Very visual indeed, Parson. Sadly, this world has and always will revolve around money and power. Remember one thing though, the meek will inherit the Earth. ;)
