Kids

Educate ‘em,
Text book to verbatim,
Then cry
When they ask why
You’ve been
Living archaically?
Seriously?
Hey, the kids are alright,
They are the light,
The candle flickering in the night.
You fill their heads
With questions;
Feed their minds
Their daily bread,
And wonder why on earth it is
They feel they are misled.
They are cleverer than you;
Adults don’t really have a clue,
Your dirty money makes ‘em blue –
And all the pain is down to you.
Tell me, brain box,
With your degree
Why shouldn’t they want to be free?
Why should they want to lead a life
Where to cause one another strife
Is the only option on the table?
Read them another Aesop’s fable;
Damning those who mistreat others –
You’ve raised them to be people-lovers!
Enchant them with the beauty
In the pages of a book –
But to function in society,
They must be petty crooks!
“You’re sixteen now son,
Your childhood is done;
Now it’s not about morality”;
That’s the sad reality.
So you; insipid second guessers,
Doubters, pouters and repressors,
If your precious GDP should falter
Then slit your own throats at the altar,
Don’t ever go on camera saying
The youth’s to blame,
The public’s baying,
T’was you who spun a web of lies
From the day they opened up their eyes.
But the books were right,
The world is magic,
It’s human life
That’s bloody tragic;
Slimy little brown-nosed men
Whose fathers never hugged them when
They made an earnest error so
They treat the kids the same, you know.
So now they barge the world aside,
Big fuck-off pound signs in their eyes,
And you rub your sweaty hands together,
As you drag them from the Land of Never
Into the Land of All the Time,
Every morning work at 9;
This express train’s bound for profit!
You’ve got no choice, you can’t get off it.
So if, one day, they should look glum,
Talk to you like you are scum,
Or just don’t feel like serving you,
Don’t be puzzled – here’s a clue;
Just think about their magic days,
And how you ripped them all away.
