A MUM IS FOR LIFE

The spoken word is difficult sometimes, especially when it carries the things we do not wish to talk about.
So Mum, I decided to write to you. It is that time in both of our lives when thoughts and feelings need to be known.
Our Kid and myself had the best upbringing any child could ever wish for. There was no material wealth to spoil the child...yet we were truly spoilt with two loving parents who taught us good manners, family values and respect of others.
This safe and secure environment provided the foundation for the two gracious, hardworking people we are today.
Life was never easy for you and Dad, yet you always provided good food on the table, lovely Christmas and birthday presents, the posh white dress for the Whitsun Week Walks and that special treat when we nagged you for some toy or other from the Post Office on Collyhurst High Street.
As a child you never get to know your parents as real people. You just have a "Mum and Dad". It's only when you are parents yourself, that you finally recognize the selfless love and devotion that these two people gave of themselves for their children's sake.
There have been many unspoken words throughout our lives. It would take another lifetime to recount them. So I just want to reassure you, Mum, that you are truly loved beyond measure. Me and Our Kid will be ok, we too have our children to sustain us. We will do our utmost to make sure our Dad is supported and looked after for the rest of his days. He will never be "Alone" and if what Dad believes is true, then we will all be together again, in spirit, one day....If not
Know here and now that you are the "Best Mum In The World" and I have been blessed and proud to have had the great fortune of being born...

Thank You Natalia My mum is in the final stages of kidney failure & will soon depart from this world. Being of Northern heritage sentiment is felt but not often spoken. I wrote this recently and gave it to her, so that during her final days she can just re-read it as often as she wants, to remind herself how much she is truly loved.

This is pretty wonderful. I wish I had done something similar for my mother. What a loving tribute. Thank you for sharing something so personal with everyone. Maybe it'll get some pens moving. Rich

Thank you Rich for your kind words. I had printed this then cut & pasted it into a card with a short, hand written very personal message. Mum being mum (she is 86) said " eeh by gum, where did you find such a lovely bit a writing" even though it was signed she didn't twig it was all my own work bless her...took a tad of explanation before the penny finally dropped..god bless her.

new Miss Polly What! a lovely way to write, such a difficult piece,for you dear mum. Paste it in card,make it better! But you truly miss, whatever age I know! Mums and dads precious. You take care! Wish mine alive too! Dad late 50's mum 8o's. AbcTales can sometimes encourage,help some write, about them their parents,lives illnesses. Take care! Talking of experience.
