BABY OIL

Could there be a prouder moment ?
I can think of none at all
Than when a baby, once quite still
discovers they can crawl
Walter and Matilda
had a baby they'd named Nate
and he was at the stage
when babes begin to motivate
One night, as Walter read a book
and Matty sewed a quilt
young Nathan was relaxing
in a crib, that Walt had built
They heard a subtle squeaking
and Matilda cocked her head
and Walt put down his novel
"What was that ?", he turned and said
"Why, its coming from the bedroom
we should check", Matilda quipped
And so into the next room
she and Walter quickly slipped
And the creaking came from Nathan
"Is he snoring ?", Walter bawled
"No, he is on his hands and knees
I think he's learned to crawl"
"But why is Nathan squeaking ?"
Walter asked her with a pout
Matilda said, "i'm clueless
but we'll get this figured out"
Matilda asked her neighbor
who had raised a brood of six
if this was something usual
and how it could be fixed
Now Connie's wit was twisted
and she said with hidden smirk
"Just check the local grocery store
Some baby oil should work"
"When little ones start crawling
all their baby bones are weak
and they require some lubricant
or else they tend to squeak"
Matilda bought some baby oil
like Connie said she should
and took it home to little Nate
and lubed him up real good
And sure enough, when little Nate
rocked back and forth in bed
he didn't make a sound at all
Twas just like Connie said
Matilda told the tale to Walt
who almost cracked a rib
Between his laughs, he told his wife
"You nut, it was the crib ! "
"While you were greasing up our kid
per Connie's cockeyed views
I bought a little oil myself
and used it on the screws"
Matilda didn't buy this tale
but didn't say a word
She knew deep down inside her heart
exactly what occurred
When summer turned to autumn
and then winter, colder still
she noticed little Nathan
was quite bothered by the chill
She went to Connie once again
to ask her for advice
and Connie knew just what to do
without her thinking twice
So with the oil she still applied
on elbows, wrists and knees
she took her good friend's sound advice
and added antifreeze
