The Emperors Clothes

When I was just a little lad my mother read to me
A fairy tale by Anderson as I sat on her knee
it was a moral story that I can still recall
About an Emperor most vain.He thought he knew it all
Some weavers had persuaded him that clothes which they supplied
No man could see except the wise. All fools would be denied.
A little boy who saw him said. Oh he is very rude
Why is he strutting on the streets completely in the nude?
I am a council worker employed to keep parks clean.
I visited the rivers bank where somebody had seen
A dirty torn old mattress left lying near the river
I took it to the depot. My boss was in a dither.
It seems that I had taken a valuable display
Part of an exhibition to be opened the next day.
The work was by an artist. A very famous one.
And cost a bomb to purchase. I thought,'What have I done?'
The boss was very worried. I said, 'Oh please stay calm
I soon can take it back again, it hasn't come to harm.
I took it to the river and laid it on the ground
Although I wasn't certain if I had it right way round.
Thats when I got to thinking. What does the artist see?
Picasso's two faced woman and Mutts 'Urinary'
The pickled sheep, the pile of bricks and Emin's 'Unmade Bed'
What inner force is driving them? What thoughts are in their head?
I took my little nephew to see what we could learn
By viewing the exhibits in the London Tate Modern,
Chris Ofili was featured. His paintings were on view.
My nephew took one look at them and said, 'They're made of poo!
