THE MANY MOONS OF YOU

the wise old galileo
back in sixteen hundred ten
devised a little telescope
and aimed it skyward, then...
he saw, surrounding jupiter
a satellite quartet
he thought that was the total
but it wasn't finished yet
the telescopes that followed
had more magnitude to delve
and by the time that i was born
the total equaled twelve
but science marches firmly on
men looking at the sky
and as they searched the heavens
sixty seven moons twirled by
and all those dancing satellites
had been there all this time
but had not been discovered
until instruments, sublime
we first met up a while ago
and as more time had passed
i picked up on your nuances
and got to know you fast
the more i delved, the more i loved
and more i craved to view
as time went on, i plainly saw
the depths that lie in you
i relish each discovery
a jewel, so sweet and rare
as i increase my magnitude
the more i see in there
and i will spend my lifetime
finding, each day, something new
and capturing the wonders
of the many moons of you
