EPIPHANY

the girl was named "epiphany"
her friends just called her "piff"
they dropped the other syllables
deciding them too stiff

the girl was just not noticed much
in darkness, she would dwell
and when the sunlight shined on her
behind, no shadow fell

her birthday was the sixth day
of the first month of the year
she had a little birthmark
that at first looked like a tear

she often asked the stars
if she would ever fall in love
the stars just twinkled mutely
in the heavens high above

a fellow, name of jack. one day
had chance to wander by
and then he noticed piff, there
from the corner of his eye

and if as struck by lightning
jack was smitten by this lass
not on the trail of love, was he
but cut off at the pass

and she became his girlfriend
to the wonderment of jack
when you've had an epiphany
there is no turning back
