It was a cold snowy day and Henry and his mother went to visit their friends Rufus and Ronnie rabbit in their burrow.
On the way Henry asked his mum what all the white soft stuff on the ground was, mother hedgehog explained it was called “snow”. When they finally reached the burrow, Rufus greeted them inside and asked them to stay for tea. When they finished their tea, Henry asked his mum if they could all play on the lawn together. Mother hedgehog said yes, but not for too long because you could catch a cold. So the four of them played outside in the snow until mother hedgehog told Henry to come back inside, but Henry asked if he could stay a bit longer. Mother hedgehog said yes but to stay on the lawn and not to wander.
After a while, a toad hopped by and said to Henry that his name was Gordon. Gordon said he knew a fun place to go and if Henry wanted he could show him. Henry explained that he was not allowed away from the lawn because his mother told him not to. Gordon then told him that his mother would not notice he was gone by the time he got back.
So Henry agreed to go with him and he followed Gordon all the way to the edge of a frozen pond. “Oh no” said Henry “ I'm not allowed near the pond” he said “mum says it’s dangerous” but as he said that Gordon hopped on the ice. “See its safe” said Gordon. As he slid on the ice pond, so Henry decided to step onto it “Hey this is fun” he said and he slid and laughed with Gordon until “CREAK” the ice begun to break. Gordon slid off in time but Henry fell into the pond ‘splash!’ He splashed and splashed but he could not swim “Help, help” he cried “I can’t swim”.
Owl who lived in a tree that overlooked the pond woke up from his sleep when he heard the cries and luckily could see Henry in peril. So he stretched his wings and swooped down and grabbed Henry who was on his belly and pulled him to safety. “Thank you” Henry said to the owl “No worries” said owl and he flew back to his tree. Henry was starting to feel cold so he followed his footprints back to the burrow. Gordon was nowhere to be seen.
When he got back, he explained to his mother what had happened. She gave him a big hug and told him not to talk to strangers again. So Henry took on board never to talk to strangers again. Henry had had a big day in the snow but was finally happy to be in the warmth of his own burrow.
