23.1.13... in a 3rd World Country...

Another Vent:
This week I totally feel like I’m living in a third world country. We have had our president spend over 247 million rand on his home 'area' (not sure how else to term it, it’s a massive property for him and his wives and the relatives, they’ve even built a bunker within their compound walls). Further to this other members of the government have spent over 65 million on renovating their homes too. What it can be related to is the Expenses Scandal London had in 2009/10, where the MPs spent all that money on stuff for their ponds and their two homes and whatever… but here in the third world, they justify it by saying its government property and it must be maintained. There is a budget… at least in London the MPs had the humility to admit they were wrong and repent and compensate. Not here. We’ve also recently hosted two major golfing championships in clubs near my home and the prizes were of crazy amounts of money…

If you travel 20 kilometers away from the clubs you will find schools were learners are exempt from fees because their parents can’t afford them. In this country, unlike many others, parents still have to pay fees (which I actually see as a good thing, because the free education in England showed me some individuals who have no idea how to work hard for something, or respect the gifts someone else’s hard-earned money has got them). Schools are few kilometers away from the government members homes, golf courses, and high earning and paying sports arenas! Those schools have orphans who have no income and live off the generosity of teachers and the school, who use the funds they don’t have to make sure that those children don’t go hungry. The schools sort out the concessions.
Further to all this… McCord’s hospital in Durban, also a kilometer or so from the homes, stadiums and golf courses, will be closing down in March this year because there is no money from the government coming in to subsidize them anymore. There are no funds… and McCord’s is the largest HIV Serving hospital in South Africa… Addington Hospital is also undergoing the same thing… so in South Africa it has now been established that the ANC believe the homes of the upper rung are more important than hospitals for the people, according to their budgets.

Today (22.1.13) in the front of the news, a bank put out an advertising campaign about making the future better by using the wishes children have for the future… the children said they want a land without poverty, fraud and corruption and the ANC are now banning the campaign because they say it is against them… so in other words they are admitting that they practice the creation of poverty, fraud and corruption, amongst other things… but not to worry because the ANC have now passed a law that no one may slander them or report their spending, all their actions are to remain secret now. So they are possibly suing the bank for treason! It’s preposterous!

All this does is reek of the guilt, corruption and underlying selfishness of the government of South Africa who have brain washed the masses to vote for them… what makes me sick to the stomach is their lying propaganda on their 101 Anniversary posters where their slogan is: 'serving selflessly'. It makes me want to vomit when I have to drive past it every afternoon. Since when do selfless people take away the maintenance funds for their schools? Inner city and town buildings are falling apart now. I currently have a huge mold infestation in my classroom that is causing me huge health problems, entire blocks have water damage in the ceilings, which look like they could explode and splash at any minute. Paint is peeling off everywhere. We are short of teachers to cover the subjects set by the government, so my timetable is the stuff that will lead me to a nervous breakdown and the government is saying that we still have to accept more learners, even if we don’t have the capacity!!! Where is the 'selflessness' I ask you? Since when do selfless people put the renovations of their homes ahead of public hospitals? Sick to my stomach…and then they want to squash an advertising campaign that is trying to inspire people to love their country… what a bunch of…. I guess I’m setting myself up for treason because I’m stating the obvious here – UGH!
