SHE TOOK AWAY THE SUN

she was my shining glory
and at times i had to squint
but i flew out of orbit
when i didn't take her hint
she moved to greener pastures
to spread out her brilliant rays
and now i'm in the doldrums
in a gray diminished haze
she took away the sun
that had inhabited my world
and now it is into the darkness
that i have been hurled
she was the only reason
that i had to take a breath
i think i'll give up oxygen
and suffocate to death
or maybe grow a set of gills
and jump into the sea
i have no use for lungs now
since that girl deserted me
there'll be no exclamations
of the love that i had known
she took away the breath
that through my world had softly blown
i think i'll find a patch of land
that no one seems to own
and i shall just lay down on it
till weeds have overgrown
i'll carve myself a tombstone
with the letters of her name
and after the composing
i shall decompose in shame
i'll never join the living
i'll just fade away to mist
she took away the reason
that my world had to exist
