CORRECTIVE LENSES

"corrective lenses", read the sign
but looking for a hint
she found her eyes were wandering
down to the smaller print

oh yes, this was the place she sought
she'd seen the TV ad
a man who could work wonders
if a person's eyes were bad

her eyes were twenty twenty
that was not her need to call
it's just her eyes were very plain
not beautiful at all

this doctor gave you glasses
not like real opticians would
they weren't to clear your vision up
just make your eyes look good

she entered and was greeted
so she introduced herself
the doctor smiled and pointed
to some glasses on a shelf

she sat before a mirror
and she tried on every pair
and chose the ones that made her eyes
the best beyond compare

she left the shop convinced
that here at last she had been cured
but suddenly she realized
her vision was obscured

but she just shrugged her shoulders
for this didn't cause a stir
it wasn't how she saw the world
but how it noticed her
