DANCING ON GOD'S FINGERTIPS

the people crawling on this earth
were once just piles of dust
then with a secret recipe
our great creator fussed
then troupes made out of gingerbread
were formed to honor God
and now we sing and dance for him
in hopes that he'll applaud
for he could just destroy us
with a flicking of his wrist
we're dancing on God's fingertips
O God, don't clench thy fist
the people who are skeptics claim
we once were less than fish
and on a scientific whim
grew from a petri dish
then outward through the ages
both our souls and psyche grew
till what was once so primitive
evolved to something new
they doubt God was the author
of this awe inspiring twist
we're dancing on God's fingertips
O God, don't clench thy fist
some laugh at monkeys in the trees
with less developed brains
the sad cabooses left behind
while man roared off in trains
but who's to say these simple apes
aren't living lives, unplanned
with inner peace and blissfulness
which we don't understand
perhaps they'll thrive on merrily
when we cease to exist
we're dancing on God's fingertips
O God, don't clench thy fist
