Tom

He was too quick for Jenny; rushing to get the oranges that spun; like orange suns in the gutter. She was thinking of the bills she still needed to pay. What would be in the omnibus edition of East-enders; that she hoped to see the next day-the reward for doing the housework earlier. She would set the timer on her oven, for 59 minutes, then stop at the designated time. It didn't matter where she was with her second hand hoover or with the cloth that smelt of lavender polish. She bought lavender polish because her mum used to and because it reminded her how structured her mum always was. If she needed a button or thread or safety pin then it would be in the needle-work basket; with a embroidered peacock on the lid. Whereas if Jenny needed anything then the whole house would need turning up-side down...whilst she swore and groaned to herself for being so untidy.
Tom tried to skip between Jenny and the quiet support worker but couldn't build up the momentum in the throbbing street and pulsating traffic as well as people who stood and chatted; oblivious to what was happening around them.
Suddenly Tom saw the most beautiful terrier on the opposite side of the road. He went to step in the path of a lorry but they pulled him back so nothing much happened that day.
