JAWS OF LIFE

it's said that from the jaws of death
a victory is snatched
that's such a vivid metaphor
with imagery, unmatched
.
it brings to mind some snarling beast
with wicked teeth and drool
that seeks to wrest your very life
in ways, depraved and cruel
.
they often use the jaws of life
when someone's in a wreck
to pry the car wide open
in attempts to save their neck
.
it seems that jaws can kill you
but can also save your life
they open things to free you
or they cut you like a knife
.
each person has a jawbone
and it works upon a hinge
we open up to speak our minds
to praise or fiercely singe
.
mere words can't really take a life
but no doubt, they can hurt
when angry words erupt
it's like an acid's torrid spurt
.
but words can lift a spirit up
and comfort those with needs
they bring the warmth of sunlight
that can nurture weakened seeds
.
so use your jaws to be a friend
we must communicate
for life's too short for using jaws
for useless things like hate
